This job is essential for the Dow AgroSciences, St. Marys Soybean Research Program to support breeding, testing, and development of commercial soybean varieties. Under the general supervision of the station research manager, the Field Research Technician will apply field plot design expertise, interpersonal skills, agronomic expertise, and experience with field equipment to conduct small plot yield tests, replicated yield trials, and mini-strip plot testing in North America. All actions will be conducted in a safe manner. Additionally this position will support the station research manager with site specific projects to ensure location goals are met. Responsibilities may include:Conduct various field research activities, including but not limited to: yield trial planting, plot maintenance, pollinating, note taking, harvesting, data analysis, reporting, selecting lines for advancement, and sample shipping. Utilization of molecular breeding techniques including Marker Assisted Selection to accelerate product development. Assist the station breeder with product characterization and advancement. Diagnose equipment in the field and update to keep in best operating condition. Maintain inventories of seed storage room and keep records of seed shipments. Organize selection of "winners", create entry lists for experiments and coordinate implementation of yield trials and breeding nurseries. Actively participate in a multi-disciplinary research team comprised of lab, field and management personnel. Interface with station staff with regard to equipment & process procedures, sampling procedures, health and safety and stewardship. Contribute leadership skills, ideas and support for all station initiatives including those relating to HR, EH&S, cross-functional teams and community development activities. Travel to outlying trial locations, other research stations, laboratories, and winter nursery facilities as needed. Ensure that DAS EH&S (Environmental Health & Safety), MTO, and station regulations and policies are enforced. This position is located in St Marys, Ontario, Canada. | |
