| Northern Healthy Foods Initiative ~ Project Coordinator Northern Association of Community Councils (NACC) is seeking a Project Coordinator to lead the operation of the Northern Healthy Foods Initiative (NHFI) Project Description The Northern Healthy Foods Initiative (NHFI) is a community-based intervention, which is designed to increase access to affordable nutritious food in Northern Manitoba communities. NHFI assists Northern communities to build capacity in local production of food for local consumption, choose nutritional foods, implement strategies to lower the cost for healthy foods, leverage funding for projects, and create food based economic development opportunities. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for: *Facilitating community garden projects and local food projects *Coordinating workshops and community events (includes some evenings, weekends) *Promoting garden workshops and events, creating and distributing posters and flyers, updating website etc. *Promote positive healthy living changes at the community level *Liaise with community members, partners, and other professionals *Deliver presentations and workshops on the NHFI program and topics related to gardening habits *Increase northern residents’ engagement in and capacity to address local food security issues *Maintain resource data and share resource information with communities and partners *Administration - oversee budget, manage program registration, and attend partner meetings, and provide project updates Qualifications: * Education: Post Secondary. Studies in Environmental Studies, Communications and Marketing preferred. *Knowledge of vegetable gardening principles and techniques * Experience in the following is an asset: experience in program management, communications and marketing, and environmental education * Individual qualities: Flexibility, good organizational skills, self motivation and a good attitude are essential * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills * Effective organization and time management skills *Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills *Able to communicate with individuals of varied backgrounds and culture, appreciate and value individual differences and cultural diversity *Presentation skills *Travel mandatory * Preference will be given to applicants currently residing in the City of Winnipeg and able to travel to the northern and rural communities Application Procedures Deadline: 4:30 pm on January 20th, 2010 | |
