Project Engineer Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be responsible for the technical function associated with the development and management of project plans during all phases, from inception through planning, design, procurement and construction to commissioning in accordance with the project scope, schedule and budget. You will be assigned several projects each having a multitude of design and construction contracts. You will lead the Designers (Consultant or in-house) through the design phase and the preparation of the construction contract. Monitors technical performance of the Designers and ensures all engineering milestones are met; coordinates work by third parties and value engineering activities. Obtains all the required sign-off and approvals both internally and from external agencies. Provides engineering support to the Resident Superintendent during construction, commissioning and hand over including the coordination of all scope and engineering changes. Provides the Project Manager with various status reports; and performs related administrative duties as assigned to meet project requirements and commitments. SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE You require comprehensive knowledge of current engineering principles and practices complemented with a strong knowledge of project management concepts and practices. Also requires a strong knowledge of construction techniques and practices including contract administration. You must have sound judgement; proven analytical, problem solving and engineering design skills; strong organizational, interpersonal, oral communication and report writing skills as well as the demonstrated ability to coordinate the efforts of others to accomplish objectives. These skills and knowledge would normally be acquired by obtaining a university degree in a relevant engineering discipline, or the equivalent, combined with extensive experience working in a directly related field such as engineering or construction management. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario is required.
