Senior Design Engineer Reporting to the SE Region Lead Engineer, Field Engineering, this position is responsible for the design work completed by junior engineers, technologists and engineering assistants. This will require the creation of work plans and assign appropriate resources to new projects, provide technical direction and coaching, and review and authenticate power line designs. This area of responsibility will require strong technical skills in civil structure design and electrical design. This position is responsible for the following key activities: Project Estimating: Coordination of design team resources to complete estimating of new projects. •Establish field check plans and resources for complex projects. •Ensure appropriate application of the corporate estimating tools. •Provide coaching and direction on determining appropriate costs,adders, and contingencies. •Approval of estimating techniques. Project Design: This position is responsible for the design team’s performance. •Strong knowledge and background with distribution design concepts and standards. •Ensure distribution designs are completed within Company and Industry standards. •Ensure the design team’s practices comply to the Company’s PPMP. •Ensure designs meet the needs of the customer, operations, and construction. •Monitoring performance of the design team on meeting DPP measurements. •Development of internal processes and practices to support the design team with projects that have issues or problems. •Approval of design changes during projects to meet project goals. Supervision and Leadership: This position is responsible for the direct supervision of the design team. •Setting performance objectives. •Complete performance reviews. •Development of training programs and plans for design staff. •Coaching and training of staff including EIT’s, Technologists and Coop Students. •Day to day direction and support of design team. •Communication of key corporate initiatives. •Safety incident investigations for direct reports. •Manage group budgets. •Supervisor on call for regions. Qualifications: •An engineering degree and a member of APEGGA. •Minimum of six to eight years combined experience in engineering, design, construction, project management or other related area. •Lesser years of experience may be considered. •Superior interpersonal skills with strong written and verbal communication skills. •Knowledge and experience in team leadership including team building, negotiation and conflict management. •Project management training and PMP designation is desirable. •A financial experience would be an asset.
