SMART is recruiting a health & safety coordinator for our Kanata operations. Reporting to the manager, health and safety, you will be responsible for faciliting and administering a comprehensive health and safety management system (HSMS). Your responsibilities will include the following: · Provide health and safety consultation services to the manufacturing operations team · Help the joint health and safety committee to meet legislative requirements in Ontario · Support the workplace health and safety insurance board (WSIB) claims process by ensuring the timely reporting of workplace injuries or illnesses, following up on claim disputes as required and acting as the liaison between WSIB and employees · Review accident and incident investigation reports, and advise on prevention and corrective measures · Promote health and safety policies and procedures · Assist with the return-to-work process and oversee modified work programs with people services and department managers · Prepare claim reports, conduct analysis and provide statistical data as required · Conduct regular research on new trends and critical developments related to workers’ compensation and health and safety · Develop and deliver safety training programs You have the following qualifications: · Bachelor’s degree in a related field · Safety certification training (e.g., CRSP, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information, MSDA) is considered a strong asset · Three to five years’ experience in occupational health and safety in an industrial establishment · Thorough knowledge and understanding of the OHSA and workers’ compensation legislation · Strong organizational skills · Strong English communication skills (both verbal and written) · Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft® Office · Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize · Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with an attention to detail | |
