Backup and Recovery Administrator/ Analyst

Both the positions are similar with regards to responsibilities and skill sets required for the position. However, the Administrator position is more senior and it would require more involvement in projects and capacity planning. The salary range for the positions is $65K - $75K.

Scope

This position is responsible for backup, recovery, HSM support and administration for multiple Rogers locations. It includes the backup infrastructure capacity and performance management.

Department: Technical Services - Storage Management
Location :Brampton
Compensation : Base Salary+Bonus+ overtime+on-call pay

Responsibilities
- Provide support and administration for backup, recovery, vaulting and HSM services 24/7/365.
- Provide support for the backup infrastructure. Work on the infrastructure performance improvements.
- Follow the company standard processes, including Change Management, Incident Management and Problem Management processes.
- Work on incidents and root cause analysis.
- Work on Disaster Recovery plans and tests.
- Work on capacity and performance management.
- Work with vendors.
- Work on designs, processes, procedures, documentation.
- Work on reporting, statistics, trend analyses, and problems, prevention.
- Perform backup and restore for midrange systems (Unix, Windows, databases). Ensure data restore problems are addressed and followed up.
- Work on new technologies and tools - research and implementation, measure performance and capacity.
- Work on media, archiving and data management solutions.
- Work on projects in a team.

Qualifications

- University degree in Computer Studies or equivalent with substantial directly related progressive work experience (7 years or more).
- Experience as a Unix Administrator (Sun Solaris or UX/HP) on an enterprise level (3 - 4 years). Experience writing scripts.
- Experience and in-depth knowledge of Veritas NetBackup 5.1 Datacenter application (3 - 4 years). Experience performing backup and restore for UNIX and Windows clients.
- Experience and knowledge of HSM applications.
- Experience and knowledge of storage (tape and disk) and SAN architecture and solutions.
- Good working knowledge of robotic Tape Libraries functionality (preferably StorageTek) and media (tapes); knowledge of vaulting processes.
- Experience and knowledge of networks.
- Experience and knowledge of Disaster Recovery processes, planning and testing.
- Experience and understanding of enterprise Datacentre processes: change, problem and incident management, etc. - Experience and knowledge of performance and capacity planning, and metrics. - Knowledge of MS Windows 2000/2003 and MS Exchange 2000.
- Understanding of database applications (e.g. Oracle, SQL, and Sybase) and Oracle RMAN.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills. Experience writing reports and documentation.
- Attention to detail; excellent time management; strong analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively under pressure; ability to multitask.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a rapidly changing enterprise environment.
- Experience and ability working as on-call support 24/7.
- Good team player. Please note, this position requires 24/7 on-call support, by rotation
