Description of Project or Company/Organization:
Calian is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to contribute your knowledge and experience to the Canadian Forces. The Department of National Defence currently requires the services of a team of civilian Instructional Designer to join their team focused on the development, maintenance and enhancement of current and future courseware within the Combat Training Centre at CFB Gagetown. The design and development of courseware will be for typical in-class learning and courseware for distributed and electronic learning. The current and pending courseware development projects are for the Infantry School, Artillery School and Armour School.

Job Description:
The Instructional Designer will be responsible for the execution of Courseware Development plans and for the design and development of course material. This will include two concurrent major projects plus minor projects as assigned by the Project Manager. Working with multi-disciplinary project teams, the Instructional Designer will provide leadership and direction to the overall management of the projects to ensure successful roll-out of the projects within timelines, policy guidelines and quality standards. Additional tasks will include but are not limited to:

• Provide analysis of instruction and requirements in terms of content, media, learner profiles, instructional methods and levels of knowledge, including the evaluation of outputs for training effectiveness and efficiency.

• Provide input to departmental planning and coordination through the analysis of priorities and objectives and directing teams through the proper balancing of requirements and available resources.

• Participate as a member of the management committees and act as an expert advisor to management on courseware development and instructional design issues.

• Represent the Courseware Development Program and establish networks with colleagues and professionals in other government departments, agencies, private sector and professional associations when required.


Mandatory Qualifications:
• Minimum of three years experience within the last five years working as an Instructional Designer developing courseware. Three examples of projects must be provided.
• Instructional Design experience in the Public Sector, including Storyboarding, Prototyping, Instructional Design and Needs Analysis.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and proven experience delivering presentations. Three examples of presentations delivered to project teams/managers since January 1st, 2003 must be provided including references.


Desirable Qualifications:
• A Bachelors Degree in Education, a Masters Degree in Education, Adult Education or Instructional Design or a Doctorate in Education or Adult Education are all considered highly desirable.


Education Requirements:
• Diploma in Instructional design. The Diploma shall address Curriculum and Instructional Design as well as Educational Media.
OR
• Certificate in Adult Education and a minimum of ten credits towards a Degree in Education from a recognized Institution.
