Location: Vancouver, British Columbia (30% travel required)
Essential Job Responsibilities


Our Client's telecom division in British Columbia is looking for an Engineering Manager. This person will be responsible for the following:



Develops, plans, coordinates and directs the engineering work for a major project, or several smaller, but complex projects, or for the design within a specific discipline. This includes work assignments, staffing, scheduling and review.

Coordinates the design of assigned systems or projects with involved personnel and client management. Understands all stages of design (from plan/concept to construction/installation).



- Telephony (PBX, VoIP, voicemail, interface with LECs, automated call distribution, etc)



- fiber optics network technologies and architectures (SONET/SDH, WDM and DWDM, PON, etc)



- data networking in general. Significance of the OSI model, general knowledge of OSI Layer 1 through 4 protocols, advantages and disadvantages of the various protocols (Ethernet, T-carriers, SONET, serial protocols, etc), network security measures (firewalling, authentication and encryptions schemes, etc), and disaster recovery measures.


- land mobile radio. Propagation, use of area coverage propagation prediction tools (mainly Planet and Pathloss), link budgets, different LMR system architectures, dispatching considerations, antenna and feedline selection, coverage test methods



- AC and DC power; selection of UPSs and battery and rectifier equipment, protection equipment (breakers, low-voltage disconnect, etc)



- lightning protection and EMI prevention. Lightning protection, grounding, design and installation of GPR and surge protection equipment



- microwave; link budgets, site evaluation, path feasibility evaluation, on-site path studies, spec of equipment, antennas, feedlines, diversity measures, etc



- General engineering experience in preparing cost, schedule, and resource estimates and writing responses to RFP's. Writing design and construction specifications and developing design drawings. Basic use of ArcView and AutoCAD in creating system designs and RFP materials.



Also experience in installation and troubleshooting of all the above in the field.



Essential Job Qualifications


Education:
Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either an ABET accredited program in the USA or an engineering program, offered by a foreign institution, accepted as valid in the home country or the country in which the individual is practicing. PE license in the USA or is in active pursuit of such registration if not already registered or foreign registration, if available, which is accepted as valid in the home country or the country in which the individual is practicing, or active pursuit of registration acceptable in the country of practice and RCDD preferred but not required.
