| Sudbury Youth Leadership Regional Coordinator Young Community Leaders (YCL) Regional Coordinator Job Description The Sudbury YMCA, in collaboration with the Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA) Canada’s Youth as Facilitative Leaders program, is looking to hire a Regional Coordinator to take the lead on a new and exciting youth engagement project in Sudbury and surrounding areas. Young Community Leaders is a three and one half year project aiming to bring the enthusiasm, intelligence and perspectives of young people to the forefront of building healthy, sustainable communities. The YMCA of Sudbury and District is a charitable association dedicated to providing opportunities to individuals, families and communities for personal growth in spirit, mind and body and service to others. ICA Canada’s Youth as Facilitative Leaders (YFL) is a youth-led leadership training and mentorship program that works with young people from diverse backgrounds to develop the confidence, values, and skills necessary to take the lead in building vibrant and inclusive communities. The first year of this contract is funded by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund, as such, candidates must be 29 years or younger who have recently graduated from a Northern college or university. Youth as Facilitative Leaders (YFL) Regional Coordination responsibilities Liaise with local youth and community organizations, local high schools, post-secondary institutions, and other youth-related institutions. Assist in identifying partners for research, public courses, fee-for-service courses, facilitation, and youth-driven community projects Conduct community-based research into current levels of youth engagement, youth-community concerns, interests and needs through community consultation, youth forums, individual interviews, and surveys. Identify potential young community leaders willing to spearhead projects based on research results and youth’s passion. Arrange logistics for YFL facilitation training sessions and workshops including dates, space, participants, travel, trainers, and trainer-mentors Facilitate and train at YFL training sessions Provide support to youth in planning and implementing their youth-driven community projects Provide support to youth trainees in applying YFL skills Assist with curriculum development and revise as applicable Assist in gathering evaluation data Assist in researching and applying for project funds Assist in developing local communication pieces/marketing materials Coordinate meetings for the Regional Steering Committee, including arranging time and place, in addition to recording minutes and distributing them to members General administrative responsibilities Attend to all daily correspondence and inquiries Provide regular reports to ICA Canada and local partner agency Maintain accurate records of expenditures Purchase any necessary office supplies Assist in any other ICA Canada or partner agency events as required Training provided ICA Advanced Facilitators Program. Includes extensive mentorship by an expert facilitator/trainer (a value of $10,000) ICA Community Development Intensive course ICA Train the Trainers course (including YFL workshops) Qualifications: Eligible candidates will be must be 29 years or younger who have recently graduated from a college or university and attended a Northern Ontario high school. • Undergraduate degree or college diploma in a social services or community development related program or equivalent • Some experience working in a non-profit environment in program delivery or project management • Familiarity with the community-at-large and local youth issues • Ability to effectively outreach to young people from diverse backgrounds and ages • Some experience facilitating and training young people between the ages of 15-30 a strong asset • Experience supervising and managing volunteers an asset • Experience working with "at risk" youth • Experience developing curriculum an asset • Exceptional research and analytical skills • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Strong organization, coordination, and time management skills • Experience working with diverse stakeholders • Capacity to mentor youth interns • High level of initiative and creativity • Must have valid G Class Drivers License Starting salary: $30,000 per year plus benefits Start date: September 2, 2008 Contract: One year, renewable How to Apply: Email cover letter and resume to Leah Taylor Subject line: “Sudbury YFL Regional Coordinator” Application deadline: August 4, 2008 Interviews will be held during the week of August 11th to the 15th. | |
