| Paralegal for Maternity Leave Our non-profit client has an immediate vacancy in their downtown Vancouver office for an experienced paralegal who can start as soon as possible and commit to a 9-month term. A paralegal or legal assistant certificate is required, together with at least 5 years of related legal experience. Candidates should possess knowledge of criminal, family, immigration, civil and other legal proceedings to effectively perform this job. You will be reporting to a managing lawyer in the civil law practice group; interviewing disadvantaged applicants; responding to phone calls for legal advice and services in accordance with policies and procedures; drafting and preparing correspondence and documents; conducting legal research; negotiating settlements; and providing other assistance as required. The successful candidate will be providing coverage for an employee on maternity leave, so it will be expected that this person can prepare basic legal correspondence and court documents, and can act as a resource to legal secretarial staff. In addition to formal legal training and experience, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required as well as sensitivity and awareness of cultural diversity in the community being served.
